Urban and Regional Planning (Master)

What do residential areas look like today? What is the state of the art? What social and cultural characteristics control the housing markets? And what influence does politics have? Complex questions about living and working are part of the professional standard for urban and regional planners.

They record and evaluate urban planning, (cultural) history, social, economic and ecological contexts. Against the background of current requirements, they develop utilization and design concepts - for example in the redevelopment of old town districts, in the development of a leisure area or in the conversion of former industrial wastelands. The conversion of cities in the context of the challenges of climate change and the use of renewable energy sources are also becoming increasingly important. The Master's degree course in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Kassel prepares graduates for current and interdisciplinary questions from research and practice. This gives them career prospects in all areas of urban and regional development.

As in the other Master's degree programmes in Faculty 6 (ASL), subject-specific specializations impart methodological, system and strategic skills in addition to basic knowledge. Master's specializations are offered in the areas of "Urban Planning / Urban Design", "Sustainable Spatial Development" and "Urban Development and Management". In the latter two areas, there are many links to political, economic, social, cultural and environmental sciences.
